My first involvement with Hospice was when I joined the Fundraising committee in 2000, and I subsequently joined the Board in 2008. I have spent over 30 years building an international business and working with international clients in various sectors. Working initially in London and Gibraltar I moved to the Isle of Man in 1991. I am a law graduate and Chartered Director; and was also a former Chairman of the Isle of Man Association of Corporate Service Providers.

In 2022 I was recognised in the Global Elite Directory, an annual publication listing the world's most respected advisers and lawyers working with ultra hight net-worth clients. I have also worked with Governments and charities on a pro bono basis to try and share my knowledge and experience. 

I am a lawyer with over 30 years in practice. I came from a biomedical academic background, and my brother was the medical director of a hospice in Cheshire, but my focus in practice has mainly been the stewardship of private wealth and charities.

I aim to put my technical and legal knowledge to good use: understanding, fostering, and developing the very best care through Hospice by maximising its funding, ensuring that the organisation enables staff to attend to patients, and shares know how on palliative care to achieve the most good in the Isle of Man. 

I was born on the island and, after education at Rushen Primary then Castle Rushen High Schools, moved to the UK to study medicine at Manchester University. 

During my 24 years as Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology I established a satellite IVF service to benefit couples with fertility issues alongside my general O/G commitments. The service has helped to support and facilitate what can often be a difficult and emotional journey. In 2010 I was voted winner of the ‘Pride in Mann’ Good Service (Public Sector) Award for commitment to the fertility services in the Isle of Man. I retired in May 2023 but continue to support the fertility & IVF services along with the promotion and integration of women’s healthcare. 

Between 2020 -22, I sadly lost my husband, followed shortly afterwards, by my father and then my mother. Experiencing “end of life” care first hand gave me insight into the great importance of Hospice and the care and compassion provided. 

I am honoured to have been elected to the Hospice Board of Directors and the Patient Care Committee and hope that my experience, both professional & personal, will help to maintain & promote this vital charity. 

I am a Chartered Surveyor with over 35 year’s experience within the property industry here on the island, where I was born and brought up, the UK and abroad. This includes working in the areas of refurbishment, development, valuation and management, experience put to use in the management and strategic planning of Hospice and Hospice Shops properties.

I firmly believe in the importance of Hospice to the Isle of Man and it is a privilege to be able to contribute, alongside the dedicated staff and other volunteers, to Hospice's continued existence as an essential, much needed service providing the highest standards of care to the island's community.

During my career I worked in a wide variety of industries but predominantly always in HR. I held a variety of roles and became the HR Director for a number of large and often international organizations.
 
My main areas of focus were Leadership and personal development, coaching, and organizational culture change. I joined the Hospice Board to utilize my skill and experience with a group of people who are passionate about the quality of service they provide and are an essential part of the Manx community. Since my retirement in 2017 I have worked with numerous charities and organizations on a voluntary basis to support their people agendas.

I grew up in the Isle of Man and went to Sheffield City Polytechnic in 1986 to undertake my nurse training. I qualified with a BA (Hons) in nursing studies in 1990 and for the next 5 years I worked in a specialist oncology hospital in Sheffield – initially as a staff nurse and then as a research sister running clinical trials into new cytotoxic agents. In 1995 I started as a nursing lecturer at the University of Sheffield, and completed by Masters in Education for Health and Social Care Practice in 1999. Whilst there I developed and lead the palliative care programme at diploma and degree level. 

In 2000 I moved back to the Isle of Man and worked in St Bridget’s Hospice (as it was then) as the Senior Sister on the inpatient unit. I then returned to education as a senior lecturer for the DHSC in 2004, being promoted to Principal Lecturer with a responsibility for governance in 2016. I am currently Principal Lecturer and Deputy Director for Education in Manx Care. 

I am a Fellow of the Higher Educational Academy, and have a strong interest in leadership, governance, clinical standards and oncology and palliative care. 

I joined the Board of Hospice Isle of Man in November 2022 and am the current Chair of the Patient Care Committee. 

After initially following a scientific pathway, I changed track and spent the majority of my working life in the Fund Industry. I was focussed primarily on fund administration and systems, working for a variety of international firms on the Island, in London and in Luxembourg. 

I hear all the time how important the Hospice is together with the superb dedicated and committed staff working within it. I am passionate about the Island and Island life and now having more spare time, I was honoured to be accepted on the Board where I hope to be able to contribute in some small way to amazing and essential work that Hospice does. 

I have worked in the legal, financial services and family office space for 26 years, most recently as an executive within a family office where my role involves not only the stewardship of family wealth, but also risk management, financial management, governance, philanthropy and people management. 

I hope to utilise my professional experience, together with my personal experience of the fantastic contribution that the Hospice makes to our Isle of Man community, to ensure that the Hospice is able to continue providing such an essential service to those who need it. 

I am a business development and marketing professional with over 15 years’ experience across multiple sectors and jurisdictions (although always been based on the Isle of Man). Having studied music and sound production at University, I started my career at a local advertising and PR agency, before moving to a number of professional services firms including a Big 4 accountancy practice on the Isle of Man.

I joined the Hospice Income Generation Committee in 2020 having had first-hand experience of Hospice care, as both my parents passed away at Hospice Isle of Man as well as my mother-in-law at a Hospice in Dorset. I am passionate about the work Hospice does and keen to continue adding value and contributing to the amazing work Hospice does on the Island. 

After returning to the Island, I wanted to bring skills I had learned during my international career to the Hospice. My background is in Banking and Wealth/Investment Management, and I have various skills and professional qualifications that can help the organisation. 

Hospice was a charity always supported by my family when I was growing up on the Island and I hope to bring skills that will help Hospice grow and make the most of the generous donations of others. 

I spent the whole of my full-time career working for an international accountancy firm undertaking predominantly audit and transaction services based work around the world.

Since retiring from the accountancy firm, I have undertaken a number of non-executive roles acting as a director and chairperson, for entities in the life assurance, banking and investment business industries. 

I am a Chartered Company Secretary, (qualifying in 1993) with a career that has spanned a number of industries, including over 30 years’ experience in regulated financial services. The last 20 years have been in Company Secretarial roles with a large international bank and more recently with a smaller independent business. It is an honour to be able to support the dedicated work that the Hospice staff and volunteers provide across the Manx community. 

I am Director of Retail, Finance and IT at Hospice Isle of Man and a member of the Executive Leadership Team. I joined the Hospice in 2020 and am responsible for finance, IT, retail and business commercial operations, as well as oversight of the Hospice’s trading subsidiaries. 

I have spent over twenty years in senior leadership roles across the charitable, health and social care, hospitality and leisure sectors, often within organisations balancing purpose, people and financial sustainability. I hold degrees in accountancy, law and psychology, and a master’s degree in banking and finance, which together have shaped a leadership approach that values sound judgement, good governance and a strong understanding of people. 

Hospice work matters deeply to me because it brings together professionalism and compassion in its purest form. Behind every decision are real people, families and moments that matter. Since joining Hospice Isle of Man, my focus has been on strengthening financial resilience, supporting long-term sustainability, and ensuring our commercial activities continue to underpin high-quality patient care. 

I strive to lead in a calm, collaborative and values-led way, and I am proud to support an organisation that provides such vital care to our Island community. 

I joined Hospice after having developed my career in HR and leadership for over 20 years within the Public Service. During this time I undertook a broad range of HR and leadership roles delivering recruitment, employee engagement, organisational development, business partnering, people strategy and payroll across the Isle of Man Government. I have been a member of the CIPD for over 20 years, and am a Chartered member of the profession. 

Now, with 25 years of HR experience my role here at Hospice is to bring a calm, people first approach to how we support our whole workforce. I focus on creating a workplace for our employees and volunteers at Hospice where people feel valued, listened to and supported whilst they provide compassionate care to our patients and families. In addition to the People and Culture and Volunteer Services teams, I lead the Support Services team who support patient care through their housekeeping, catering, estates and health and safety work. I believe that when our people feel cared for at work, it enhances their individual potential and the care they can give to others; and that is my purpose here at Hospice. 

I am the Head of Income Generation at Hospice Isle of Man, with responsibility for fundraising, marketing, and communications. I am proud to lead an exceptional team who are responsible for raising over £4 million each year to ensure the Hospice can continue to provide outstanding care to our community. I bring a strategic, problem-solving approach to my work, shaped by senior income generation roles within charities in Scotland, experience serving on boards and in chair positions, and a background in self-employment, including establishing new businesses. As a leader I am very clear that while I set direction, everything we achieve is down to the talent, commitment, and passion of the whole team. It is my job to remove obstacles, cut through complexity, and create the space they need to do their very best work. 

I am strongly motivated by making a meaningful difference and deeply passionate about the work of Hospice. I moved to the Isle of Man with my family in 2021 and am proud to call the island home. People often describe me as warm, approachable, and refreshingly straight-talking, with a low tolerance for unnecessary nonsense. I am endlessly fascinated by people — what drives us, what connects us, and what inspires generosity — and I genuinely believe that life, and the chance to make it better for others, is something rather brilliant. 

I grew up and attended school in the North of the Island and then studied a BSc in Children’s Nursing at Hertfordshire University. After finishing my degree in 2007 I returned to the Island and was successful in applying for a post at the newly opened Rebecca House Children’s Hospice. 

I worked solely in Rebecca House as a staff Nurse until 2014 when I asked to gain some experience in the adult Hospice service, following this I changed my contract and worked regularly across both Rebecca House and the Adult In Patient Unit until April 2017 when I moved into a management role. 

My first management role was as Head of Children and Young Peoples Services; I expanded my management responsibilities in 2020 to become Head of Children, Young People and Therapies and in 2023 took on the management of our Adult In Patient Unit and Day Unit.

While working at Hospice I have completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Palliative Care, MSc in Professional Practice and qualifications in Leadership and Management through the Institute of Leadership and Management. 

I’m passionate about the clinical services we deliver and Hospice as an organisation, the team we have are clinically excellent and all strive to deliver the best for our patients; not forgetting we have an equally wonderful admin team supporting the running of the organisation. I’m very proud to work for Hospice and be a part of the care we deliver. 

I am the Palliative Care Nurse Consultant at Hospice Isle of Man, where I also hold the roles of Community Service Lead and Education Lead. With nearly 30years experience in Palliative and End of Life Care at Hospice, my primary clinical role is to provide specialist palliative care to patients with complex needs, working collaboratively with primary care, acute services, and multidisciplinary teams to support patients and families. 

As Community Service Lead, I lead the strategic and operational development of community palliative care services, with a focus on accessibility, integration, and quality improvement. In my role as Education Lead, I help deliver education and training programmes for hospice staff and external partners, supporting excellence in palliative and end-of-life care across the island.

Through my experiences, I have seen how listening closely, addressing physical and emotional symptoms, and helping navigate difficult decisions with clarity and care can help patients live as fully and comfortably as they can.

From a young age, I always wanted to be a doctor. I didn’t really know why, I just knew that’s what I wanted to do. Although initially when I was 4 years old, I told my family that I wanted to be a “sturgeon” when I grew up; they pointed out my error, and I would just state that I wanted to be a doctor instead. 

I graduated from Liverpool Medical School with honours in 2003, and despite many different jobs along the way, ive always had a love for palliative care. My initial specialist training route however was as a General Practitioner, and I qualified as a GP in 2009 and moved to the Isle of Man shortly after.

When the job of Hospice physician was advertised in 2018, I was encouraged to apply and do the job part time alongside my GP role. I was offered the job, and have loved every second of working at Hospice since. During my time working at hospice, I have completed a Masters degree in Palliative care (with distinction) to further my specialist knowledge over and above my GP qualifications. 

I took over the role of Medical Director in 2024 and was delighted to be able to come to work full time, rather than part time as I had been in the past. I still keep my hand in as a GP, and do sessions in Manx Emergency Doctor Service out of hours, as well as being the clinical lead running that service.
